My experience of using a windows phone.
This is what she responded when I proposed her. I fell in love with this technology right away. When my cousin gifted me Nokia Lumia 920, I was little skeptical about it. But after (rigorously) using Windows phone for almost 2 years, now I am surprised by what all it has to offer.
According to me, Cortana is one of the most promising feature of Windows OS. It was released after Siri and Google Now but it combined the best features of both of them and even added a few which were never heard of before. Fortunately, its voice has that personality which Siri initially offered (which Google Now lacked) and combined it with the intelligence of Google Now (which Siri lacked).
If I start listing the features of Cortana which I like, the list would be very long. So let me mention a few which surprised me the most. Last year, few days after starting my internship, she popped up the map with a pointer to my new office asking me about the place. At that very instance I knew she was like any other women keeping an eye on their partner. She had noticed that I go there everyday and asked me if I want to store that place as my favorite. Not just that, It use to update me on traffic conditions from work to home every weekday when I was about to leave office. Then there are location based reminders which work in a similar manner. It also pulls up my flight information from my mails and track them as I get closer to departure. It also features person based reminders which get activated moment I get a call from that person.
Most of these features are now also available in Siri and Google Now, but the level set my Cortana are beyond imagination. Here is one unique feature available with Cortana. Whenever you ask her a question, you can follow up with another question just like a conversation. For example, if you ask about the Indian restaurants near a point, you can follow up with the next question like which of them has the best rating or something like that. Try that with Siri or Google Now, it would be considered as a completely new converstaion.
All is not good with Cortana. There are some drawbacks too. Voice activation is not present in Cortana. Although it lacks in Siri too, but Cortana has already set higher standards for me. Hence, raising my expectations. Moreover, it does not integrate well with third party applications. Consider a situation in which I search for a movie theater or a movie review. If I want to book ticket, it cannot integrate with any application to do that for me. Siri does offer this feature to some extent.
All said and done, I believe this competition is just heating up. In the years to come, it is just going to get more intense and in the end it would be your personal choice which one you like the most. Consider following three screenshots:
Now I think it depends on a person which answer they like the most. Have a good day!
